Botox and Dermal Filler Uses, Procedures and Common Results
1. Treating Headaches and Facial Pain
Botox is an anti-wrinkle toxin that can be used to relax or paralyze muscles. The most common area where Botox is used in dentistry is in the case of facial pain or headaches and also in the areas between and around the eyes. It can be injected into muscles in these areas as an aid in treating pain with added benefit of reducing wrinkles. Botox may be used to relax or weaken the muscle that closes the jaw. Weakening this muscle reduces the amount of clenching and grinding, and therefore reduces the pain. The best mehod of correcting this common dental irregularity is injecting small amounts of Botox into the jaw muscle.
2. Reducing wrinkles
Botox can reduce wrinkles around the mouth and chin, while enhancing a patient’s smile. When the muscle around the mouth is weak or relaxed, it cannot contract with as much force as usual. Treatment with Botox gives the appearance of fuller lips and reduces the fine lines around the mouth.
3. Treating Black Triangles
Dermal fillers can be used in the gum between the front teeth to fill and plump the gum to reduce the space between the gum and teeth. This procedure will reduce the appearance of the black triangle spaces that are noticed between teeth as we age.
